This
was the very first kit that I ever assembled. I did put together 2 ARF's
before the Wright Flier, (and 2 micros). I opened the box and asked
myself, What did I get myself into? But after going through the
instructions and contents of the box, I was confident I could build the
Dare Wright Flier. The kit itself has nice laser cut parts, and clear
instructions. For a "rookie" it was not too difficult to build ( with a
couple of emails to Pat :). In fact I had a great deal of fun, and sense
of great accomplishment when finished. It looks very scale like, the
best I've seen so far, for a RC Wright Flier. The first flight, I was
very nervous, but it came of very well. Sorry no pics in flight yet, but
here's one just after I finished the build. The "engine" looks blue in
the pic, but its actually gray. All in all, I had great fun building,
and hopefully more fun and many more flights :)
Thanks for a
great kit and design. You can't go wrong with this one.

Bullock
Los Angeles, CA - The model is the P-26 by Mike Midkiff.
I have always wanted to build a flyable P-26, and tried several years
ago with the Sterling kit, to no avail. The Mike Midkiff design is
ingenious, light, stable and ultimately a delight to behold. I used the
blue tissue included in the kit, but opted for lightspan for the wing
and tail feathers, because it is stronger, and a better color yellow
than the tissue in the kit. I worked up the decals on my computer,
also using an old image of the “arrowhead” emblem I had. The RC system
is a Berg Microstamp receiver with two feather servos, and an Astro
Flight 010 brushless with planetary gearing, running on a 3-cell 1200
mah LiPoly pack. Empty weight (without battery) is 12 oz. Did I say it
flies well? It does. |

Atlanta, Ga (Georgia Tech)
Comments: I bought a Verti-Go kit and built it as a 3-ch park flyer to
use here in downtown Atlanta. It has GWS pico receiver, microservo's and
a geared 180 motor with a 700ma 2-cell Li-Po. This model is designed to
be rubber-powered but handles the RC conversion very well with few
modifications.
I
modified the kit by adding a separate firewall for the motor, adding an
interior balsa support to mount the servos, and by fabricating the
rudder and elevator control surfaces. The only thing I didn't account
for is the landing gear, which is much too wobbly to allow for an actual
takeoff. Landing are nice and soft though. This kit flies very well with
the added weight of RC equipment.... I
can't imagine how long it must stay up with several hundred turns of
rubber. The laser-cut parts went together well and the balsa quality was
good. I covered the kit with tissue and I used the glue stick and clear krylon method. This is a fairly new method of covering for me but it was
the quickest, least messy, and I am happy with the results. Thanks! |

Dwight
Gregson
I talked to one of you this summer when I bought this
Luscombe. You were interested that I was going to make an electric (4)
channel out of it. It has a Himax Outrunner HC2816 motor, 10 X 4.7 slow
fly prop. I use a 3 cell lipo 1500ma battery and JR Lite 4 channel
radio.
It
flies really well on 1/2 throttle. Full throttle is too much at level
flight.
It was a good kit to build. All the parts
were cut perfect.
I
have only one negative about the kit and is was not a problem for me but
it could be for an inexperienced builder. There was no
windshield layout
on the plans. Other than that, perfect!
Here's
a few pictures. I will probably be ordering another kit soon.

Pat Tritle designed Fokker, Dare kit # 505 EL.
I finally completed my Dr.-1 and have now flown it many times. It is
outstanding!!! I really love it.
I
was expecting it to be a slow floater, but it has proven to be quite
aerobatic. I'm running a Razor 400 on it in a GWS "C" gearbox with
10x4.7 prop, Phoenix 10 ESC, 3s 1050 Apogee lipo pack, GWS Pico servos
and Berg microstamp receiver. Preliminary flight weight without pack was
10.6 oz, weight with pack was 13.3 oz. After
adding the detailing described below it picked up 0.9 oz., but still
flies just as nicely. I easily get over 15 minutes of aerobatic flight.
Inside loops are as big or small as you want, outside loops are easily
done, rudder rolls will leave you
swearing
it has ailerons, spins are tight with a pretty slow descent. Even does a
fair hammerhead. But ease the throttle back to 1/4 and it behaves like a
slow flyer, cruises around majestically and looks fantastic doing so!
Wheels are handmade by Keith Sparks, radial is from Dare (I used carbon
fiber for the pushrods),
guns
are spandaus from Wright Bros. and the pilot head was stolen from an old
plastic model kit and installed on a scratch-built balsa torso. Cowl,
lower wing and struts are all held in place with rare earth magnets and
are removable. Pictures attached.
Thanks! -
